Under direction of the Medical Director, the Women’s Health Physician oversees all aspects of prenatal and women’s health patient care services provided by LCH. Working from a quality assurance approach, the Women’s Health Physician monitors clinical performance to ensure women’s health medical services and operations are in compliance with all applicable regulatory and licensing agencies. The position serves as coach/mentor/trainer to staff providers, giving guidance in best practices, and implementing quality improvement of medical services. The Women’s Health Physician will also represent LCH at meetings with affiliated agencies, working groups, conferences, and with donors. Must hold MD license in Obstetrics & Gynecology.

The Women’s Health Physician provides 16 hours per week of direct patient care.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the Clinical Providers. Sets the direction for their areas of responsibility to align with the overall clinical division goals.
  • Provides leadership, vision, and direction in developing new service delivery areas for LCH; directs, monitors and evaluates programs, revising and adapting as necessary and/or appropriate
  • Formulates and/or revises clinical policies for presentation to internal committees and staff.

Oversight and Management of Quality of Medical Care

  • Responsible for women’s health quality improvement and quality assurance in accordance with Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) standards.
  • Oversees and implements the women’s health aspects of the LCH Quality Improvement Plan, as approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for directing all women’s health providers in the practice of quality care according to standards and benchmarks set by the organization, licensing boards and funding agencies.
  • Establishes and/or maintains working and collaborative relationships in the health provider community, on behalf of and in accordance with formal understandings of LCH. Develops relationships with hospitals and specialty providers for referrals and for provision of inpatient care, seeks out available medical resources, and secures medical access for LCH patients.
  • Responsible for overseeing and implementing Peer Review. This includes a systematic collection and evaluation of patient records that results in the identification and documentation of services that require improvement.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the women’s health medical protocols manual and determining initiation of medical protocols for specified health problems. Documents clinical protocols in a manner that is easily understood and can be followed by all clinical staff.
  • Responsible for training of medical staff and orientation for new clinicians. Oversight of required continued education.

Delivery of Medical Care:

  • Provides direct clinical medical services in the area of practice specialty in accordance with the highest applicable standards of medical and professional practice and in full accordance with health center protocols and policies.
  • Creates clear clinical standards and promotes meaningful use of the electronic medical record as well as coordinating ongoing training necessary to ensure staff competency.
  • Coordinates with social services and other agencies to provide integrated and coordinated care.

Administrative Activities:

  • Supervises clinical providers. Evaluates the job performance of clinicians.
  • Co-leads Health Center Provider meetings in collaboration with the Medical Director.

  • Provides additional assistance within and outside of clinical arena, as requested and/or as appropriate,

  • Maintains regular attendance; Performs all duties in a timely manner; Attends all meetings as scheduled and/or directed by Medical Director.
  • Follows all LCH procedures and adhere to policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Collaborates with staff of all LCH programs including Social Services and Community Services as appropriate to ensure efficient integration of services and support.
  • Signs off of all charts within two (2) business days of providing care services.
  • Enters and signs at the point of care, all orders including evaluation and management (E&M) codes and any procedures performed during office visits. 
  • Respects confidentiality at all times.
  • Commits professional time to community service activities/fundraising activities on behalf of LCH.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Job description subject to review and may change based on business necessity.

Qualifications

  • Holds current MD license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Credentialed or eligible for credentialing under Medicare, Medicaid and other commercial insurance.
  • Strongly prefer experience in progressively responsible administrative or management-related positions within a primary health care environment, preferably in medically needy and under-served communities and in a community health center setting.
  • Previous experience supervising providers and other clinical staff is essential, with demonstrated record of success.
  • Previous experience providing services and exercising leadership in a culturally and linguistically diverse setting, with demonstrated success.
  • Public Health/ Community health experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with a second culture is preferred.
  • Holds Current CPR certification.

Skills

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Proficiency in office-based applications:  EMR (experience with Centricity preferred), MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook) and Internet use is required. 
  • Must possess superior organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and be detail oriented.
  • Customer Service Skills (patient, empathetic, responds to patient’s emotional state).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be a team player.
  • Must be capable of employing time-management skills for projects with varying timelines; must be able to work under pressure.
